About Can Blau El Nen del Celler

The winery boy dreamed of growing vineyards. The winery boy dreamed of harvesting his own grapes. Then the winery boy imagined making his own wine. And finally the winery boy made it. That boy was Juan Gil Giménez who in 1916 managed to make all his dreams come true with the first vintage that founded his winery. Who would have thought then that this Jumilla winegrower would see his project spread throughout Spain? Who would have thought that his heirs would venture into the heart of Catalonia to create Can Blau El Nen del Celler?

Can Blau El Nen del Celler is a red wine made in El Priorat, in the village of El Molar, in the heart of the D.O. Montsant (northwest Spain). Its mixture of limestone, clay and metamorphic soils are ideal for the cultivation of vineyards (over 40 years old), where varieties like Grenache, Carignan, Tempranillo and Syrah abound. However, what is really great for these varieties is the Mediterranean climate, marked with strong continental notes, in an enclave surrounded by mountains that isolate it from the sea and leave the vines defenseless against cold winters and dry, hot summers (minimally diminished by the influence of the Ebro River). This strong temperature contrast is perfect for red varieties, which need these big changes to develop and ripen properly.

At Can Blau each of the varieties is grown in separate plots, giving each of them the necessary care and the time needed to ripen. Can Blau El Nen del Celler is harvested entirely conventionally and taken to the winery where each plot is worked and vinified separately. Selection, crushing, vatting, fermentation and finally blending. Year after year, the dream of Juan Gil Giménez is growing, settling and becoming one of the most active and successful Spanish winemaking groups. However, there are no magic formulas for making dreams come true. The key lies in hard work and effort. That’s all there is to it. Meanwhile, our dreams can be made of Can Blau El Nen del Celler. What would that child who had so many dreams say today?

2021

Can Blau El Nen del Celler 2021 is a juicy red wine, cherry red in colour, with bright garnet hues. The nose reveals red fruit, aromatic herbs and a slight mineral touch. The palate is fresh and long, with sweet tannins and good acidity. Persistent finish.
