About Blau Verd

When a renowned producer such as Grupo Juan Gil has spent years perfecting their craft and creating high-quality wines, it is not surprising that they would wish to expand their influence and try their hand in other appellations with their savoir-faire. With an established trajectory and a name synonymous with excellence in the wine world, Juan Gil has demonstrated that their expertise and passion can adapt and flourish in other terroirs outside Jumilla, in Murcia (Spain). Thus, in 2003, they ventured into the D.O. Montsant (Catalonia) with their own project Cellers Can Blau. With 35 hectares of their own vineyards distributed across different plots with diverse soils, orientations, and altitudes in the locality of El Molar, they not only expand their legacy but also reflect the richness and complexity of the Montsant terroir.

Their red wine Blau Verd, under the guidance of winemaker Nuria López Sarroca, is a blend of cariñena, planted in clay soils, and garnacha tinta, cultivated on slate soils. Vines with an average age of 40 years treated according to ecological principles. In the winery, the grapes macerate and ferment separately in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Afterwards, the wine ages in oak barrels for 4 months before bottling.

With wines such as Blau Verd, Juan Gil not only strengthens their reputation but also contributes to the diversity and richness of the wine world. A red wine, flavourful, fluid, and balanced, that reveals the richness of Montsant.

 

2021

Blau Verd 2021 is a supple red wine with a bright ruby hue and dark cherry-red highlights. On the nose, it presents aromas of cardamom and raspberry, with subtle notes of red tea and a hint of liquorice. Medium-bodied, it is distinguished by an excellent balance, with moderate tannins and a slight acidity. The finish reveals notes of kirsch, adding a savoury and fluid touch.
