About Barón de Ley Blanco Semidulce

Barón de Ley Blanco Semidulce is a young white wine crafted from the sauvignon blanc variety at the Barón de Ley winery, in the DOCa. Rioja region.
 
Located in the Navarrese town of Mendavia, at the banks of the Ebro River, the Barón de Ley winery was established in a former fortified castle dating back to 1548. Having passed through the hands of counts, Benedictine monks, and generals, it is now Eduardo Santos Ruiz who manages the winery as its major shareholder. Over 600 hectares of vineyards are cultivated to produce wines in the quintessential DOCa. Rioja style. 
 
Barón de Ley Blanco Semidulce originates from estate-owned vineyards planted at over 800 meters above sea level. Thanks to the influence of the continental climate and its thermal variations, berries with excellent sugar and acidity levels are achieved. Harvesting is done by hand when the grapes reach their optimal ripeness. 
 
At the winery, the grapes for Barón de Ley Blanco Semidulce are destemmed and gently pressed. The resulting must ferments at a low temperature (between 12°C and 14°C) in stainless steel tanks. Finally, this fermentation is halted by applying a temperature of -4°C to stop the yeasts from working, leaving residual sugar in the wine.
 
Barón de Ley Blanco Semidulce is a pleasant and fruity wine that, to counterbalance the excess residual sugar, possesses good acidity. An excellent choice for those new to the world of wine.
