About Valtravieso Crianza

In the DO Ribera del Duero, at over 900 metres altitude, lies the plateau of Piñel de Arriba. Here, the climatic conditions change, and so does the approach to wine. Precisely in La Revilla, one of the plots that best represents the character of Valtravieso and the origin of its red wine, Valtravieso Crianza.

The vines from which Valtravieso Crianza is born, with an average age of 25 years, thrive on limestone soils with clay veins and face a demanding climate, particularly in vintages like this one, marked by a very hot summer with virtually no rainfall. The harvest took place in early October, aiming for the right moment to maintain the balance between ripeness and freshness.
 
After its time in the winery, Valtravieso Crianza spends at least 12 months in barrel, with 90% French oak and 10% American. The rest continues in bottle until the two years of ageing are complete, a necessary period to integrate the fruit, wood, and structure.
 
Valtravieso Crianza is a clear expression of what happens when a winery makes the plateau its hallmark: a wine with altitude, character, and a freshness that lingers in the memory.

2020

Valtravieso Crianza 2020 is a concentrated, cherry-red coloured red wine. With a medium to high colour intensity, this is a very attractive wine, with a fruity nose featuring currants and strawberries, which appear quickly. These fruits mingle with spicy touches and toasted touches from the aging process. The palate is pleasant and fine, with well-integrated tannins. Voluminous and fresh. Flavoursome acidity.
2016 Valtravieso Crianza 2016 is a deep, complex and mature wine. This vintage stands out on the nose due to its ripe red fruit, with spicy and smoked notes of its aging. On the palate it is full-bodied and silky, with a lingering and persistent finish.
