About Pago de los Capellanes Doroteo

Pago de los Capellanes Doroteo is a wood-aged red wine made by Pago de los Capellanes with the Tempranillo variety in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, in Castilla y León (Spain).

Pago de los Capellanes is run by Paco Rodero and his wife Conchita Villa. The winery was built in 1980 in Pedrosa de Duero, near Burgos, in the heart of the Ribera del Duero. With over 100 hectares of their own vineyards and state-of-the-art facilities, they have become one of the best wineries in one of the most internationally prestigious Spanish wine regions.

Pago de los Capellanes Doroteo is made from selected very old vines lying more than 800 metres above sea level. These vines are over 90 years old, planted on poor clay soils that are full of gravel. They are cultivated using traditional agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually, selecting the best bunches on the ground.

In the winery, the Pago de los Capellanes Doroteo grapes are crushed and, after maceration and fermentation at a controlled temperature, the wine undergoes a long aging of 36 months in 225-litre French oak barrels, followed by another 24 months in the bottle before being released for sale.

The Pago de los Capellanes Doroteo wine was made to celebrate the winery’s 25th anniversary. A limited edition, named after the founder, that pays tribute to such a cherished legacy.

 

2018

Pago De Los Capellanes Doroteo 2018 is a red wine with powerful aromas of ripe red and black fruits accompanied by balsamic and spicy nuances from its aging. The palate is fresh, silky, vibrant and balanced with polished tannins. A red wine with good length and exquisite elegance that is persistent and pleasant.
2015

Pago de los Capellanes Doroteo 2015 is a concentrated red wine with an expressive nose of ripe red and black fruit, hints of wild flowers and hints of liquorice and wood. On the palate it is powerful, silky and enveloping. A wine with well-developed tannins and lively acidity. The finish is lingering and persistent.
