About Gosset Grand Rosé Brut

Half Pinot Noir and half Chardonnay. This is the blend that Gosset uses to make Gosset Grand Rosé Brut, a dry rosé champagne made from the grands cru of Avize, Ambonnay and Bouzy, and the premiers cru of Cuis, Pierry and Rilly. All these vineyards are spread across the Côte de Blancs and the Montagne de Reim, some of them facing north. This fact would spell disaster for some still wines, creating green and unripe grapes; however, when it comes to sparkling wines, it is not so much of an issue, given that sometimes acidity is sought after, desired and tremendously coveted. This characteristic is also partly due to the calcareous soil and the typical climate of the A.O.C.Champagne (northwest of France), with lots of rainfall (which is retained in the soil), average temperatures of 11 degrees (with mild winters and cool summers) and frosts in winter and spring.

Likewise, when it comes to Gosset Grand Rosé Brut there is another variable in play; the vintages, specifically 2014 and 2013, from which they use 80%-90% and 10%-20% respectively in the final coupage of this champagne. After fermentation, the Gosset Grand Rosé Brut base wine is bottled and blended with the expedition liqueur, remaining in the cellar for 3 and 5 years until 2019, when disgorgement (and subsequent lees removal) takes place. During this time, Gosset Grand Rosé Brut undergoes a second fermentation, rounding out its flavour and character.

Finally, it should be noted that Gosset Grand Rosé Brut, like all the wines from this legendary French house, never undergoes malolactic fermentation, achieving a tremendously tasty, recognisable and identifiable level of acidity from this brand.

The perfect pairing of two of this denomination’s main varieties.
