Parker ends June 2014 with new ratings of Spanish wine

30/06/2014 Breaking news

We’d been eagerly waiting on new Parker scores of Spanish wines for a couple weeks now (the latest scores date back to March) and finally, this weekend, The Wine Advocate surprises us with no less than three articles on Spanish wine.

This time, Luis Gutiérrez has focused on the DOs of Navarra and Txakolí, while the wine guru Robert Parker focused on the best value wines of the European Wine Cellars distributor.

nvarraAn evening among vines in the DO Navarra

Let’s take a look at some of the Spanish wines available at Decántalo mentioned in the latest issue of The Wine Advocate:

Les Crestes: Among Robert Parker’s scores we find, with no less than 94 points, this fantastic coupage of Garnacha, Cariñena and Syrah by bodega Mas Doix, under the DOCa Priorat label. A young, expressive, flavourful, deep and pleasant wine. A wonderful wine, affordable to anyone!

Pruno: This wine has been amassing positive reviews for several vintages, and it seems as if its winning streak among international wine experts is not about to end. This time, Parker gave the wine 93 points and personally praised the work carried out by Bodega Finca Villacreces. A great Ribera del Duero at an irresistible price: under €10.

Las Gravas: Let’s take a moment to travel to the D.O. Jumilla to discover another great, triumphant wine according to Parker. This time, the Casa Castillo flagship wine obtained 94 points, making it a benchmark within this denomination. A more than deserved prize for this fantastic coupage of Monastrell, Cabernet and Syrah.

Domaines Lupier La Dama 2010: 94 Parker points is what Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate’s representative in Spain, gave this very interesting and little-known Garnacha from Navarra in Spain’s northernmost Garnacha vineyard. It has freshness, minerality and persistence, and is a wine with a marked terroir. Highly recommended.

Emilio Valerio Viña de San Martín: We end our selection without moving away from the D.O. Navarra. This time we travel to the hillside of Montejurra to explore a Garnacha with a bit of Tempranillo that, due to its fleshiness and quality, is quite a pleasant surprise. With 94 Parker points, this is one of the best Garnachas from Navarra currently available.
