About Terrazas de los Andes Malbec Reserva

Not one, not two, not three… but 100 plots have been utilised for the production of Terrazas de los Andes Malbec Reserva, a red blend that brings together the finest vineyards of Luján de Cuyo and Uco (two valleys located in Mendoza, Argentina).

This region, in the central west of the country and at the foot of the Andes, concentrates 75% of Argentina's total vineyards, making it one of the most important wine-producing provinces in the country. Here, varieties such as Malbec acquire subtle nuances that vary depending on their plantation and altitude. Many wineries, such as Terrazas de los Andes, venture here to study these characteristics in order to extract the best from each plot. In the case of this company, years of dedication to this endeavour have led them to uncover the secrets of each micro-territory, ultimately resulting in the red Terrazas de los Andes Malbec Reserva.

The grapes for Terrazas de los Andes Malbec Reserva are harvested in Eugenio Bustos, Las Compuertas, Paraje Altamira, Los Chacayes, and Gualtallary. These six vineyards, owned by the winery, are situated at altitudes ranging from 1,070 to 1,250 metres. At these heights, temperatures are extremely variable both day and night. These stark contrasts favour the deposition of anthocyanins (polyphenols that impart colour to the grape) and result in slower ripening, which translates into higher levels of natural acidity. The rocky soils, poor in organic matter, easily drain the scant rainfall the vines receive (averaging 220 mm per year). This combination of factors compels the plants to work hard to produce by late August a Malbec that results in an elegant wine, proudly representing this unique mountain climate. For this reason, at Terrazas de los Andes, they advocate minimal intervention, avoiding any factors that might mask the wine.

In crafting Terrazas de los Andes Malbec Reserva, each plot is worked separately to achieve the best varietal expression. Following meticulous monitoring, the harvest is conducted by hand at the optimal time. From the field, the grapes are brought directly to the winery, where they are destemmed and macerated separately. This process, carried out at low temperatures to prevent fermentation from starting, aims to achieve two objectives: firstly, to extract greater colour; secondly, to enhance the wine's aromatic potency. Finally, Terrazas de los Andes Malbec Reserva will ferment in two different vessels: one part in used French oak barrels, while the other in concrete tanks.

Once transformed into wine, Terrazas de los Andes Malbec Reserva is tasted to determine if clarification is necessary. Finally, this red is bottled and rests for a minimum of 14 months before being released to the market, becoming the finest way to experience the magic of the mountains.
