In the heart of Montepulciano, the tale of Poderi Sanguineto unfolds in 1963, when Federico Forsoni acquired an estate envisaged as a classic mixed-use farm: cereal fields, livestock pastures, and a few vineyards producing wine on a small scale, intended more for family and friends than the market.
Today, his daughter Dora Forsoni continues the legacy with the same philosophy. While many farms in the region transformed into agritourism centres enticed by tax benefits, and numerous wineries, both large and small, turned to industrial wines tailored to international tastes with grapes like cabernet sauvignon or merlot, Dora chose a different path: remaining true to tradition and the natural winemaking taught by her father. For her, winemaking is much more than a business; it is a life mission.
The result of this commitment is embodied in Poderi Sanguineto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a wine that reflects the purest essence of the region. It is crafted with a classic blend of sangiovese—here known as prugnolo gentile—accompanied by small percentages of canaiolo nero and mammolo. The vineyards, with medium-textured soils of Pliocene origin, were planted in different stages: 1963, 1999, 2012, and 2017, creating a mosaic of history and youth that translates into complexity and freshness.
The harvest is manual, ensuring the grapes arrive intact at the winery. There, the must ferments spontaneously, without added yeasts. During fermentation, daily pump-overs are carried out to maintain the contact between skins and wine, in a maceration lasting 8 to 10 days. The vinification takes place in concrete and glass-lined stainless steel tanks, and the wine is aged for 2 years in large Slavonian and Allier oak barrels, ranging from 18 to 30 hectolitres.
Poderi Sanguineto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is authentic, elegant, and profound. A wine that speaks with a Tuscan accent and conveys respect for a land and tradition that refuses to dissolve into trends.
