About Podere Giodo Brunello di Montalcino
“Mr. Sangiovese” is not merely a nickname, but a declaration of intent. This is how Carlo Ferrini is known, one of Italy's most influential oenologists and an advisor to some of the country's most prestigious wineries, from South Tyrol to Sicily. However, his true obsession has always been the sangiovese of his native Tuscany. Hence, his moniker.
Since his agronomy studies in Florence, Ferrini has focused his work on the essentials: the soil, rootstocks, and a near-surgical pursuit of the finest sangiovese clones. From this obsession arose his personal project, Podere Giodo, in the south of Montalcino, a still tranquil Tuscany, with dense forests and sloped vineyards.
Over the years, the project expanded to approximately 6.5 hectares. Small in size, yet meticulous in intent. Today, a new energy is added to this universe with his daughter Bianca, who trained in agronomy and marketing in the United States and is a former elite water polo athlete, returning to continue and project the family venture.
Podere Giodo Brunello di Montalcino aligns perfectly with this philosophy. Its label does not merely decorate; it explains. A human figure symbolically holds the world of wine, represented by a single protagonist, the sangiovese. A simple, almost minimalist gesture, yet with a clear message that the wine does not impose itself, it is upheld.
The wine is crafted exclusively from sangiovese grapes sourced from their own vineyards, selected with an almost obsessive rigor. In the winery, the ageing process further defines the style with over 30 months in 700-litre French oak barrels, followed by 18 months of refinement in the bottle. A long, measured process designed to build not power, but definition.
The result is a Brunello that does not seek to dominate, but to evolve in the glass. A wine of fine delineation, confirming its character over time. As Parker himself notes, Podere Giodo Brunello di Montalcino is “a Brunello that promises a long ageing potential.”
