About Philippe Pacalet Échézeaux Grand Cru

Philippe Pacalet Échézeaux Grand Cru is a natural single-variety Pinot Noir red wine produced by Philippe Pacalet under the A.O. C. Échézeaux Grand Cru, in Burgundy, France.

The grapes used to make the Philippe Pacalet Échézeaux Grand Cru wine come from 45-year-old vineyards with clay and limestone soils with sandy and ferrous components that are cultivated according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture. They are southeast-facing and enjoy a sunny and airy microclimate.

The clusters ferment whole with their own yeasts for four weeks without the temperature being artificially controlled and without adding sulphites. The cap is plunged twice a day. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in parts and is then aged with its fine lees for 17 months in oak barrels without added SO2.

Philippe Pacalet is a winemaker who specialises in microbiology and who inherited the philosophy of minimal intervention in the vineyard from his uncle Marcel Lapierre, a leading winemaker in Morgon. Pacalet produces wines from 10 hectares spread across different denominations of the Côte D'Or, in collaboration with winemakers who he buys the crop from as long as they work under his guidelines. They have to allow the vine to be nourished by its own terroir so that it can reveal the essence of the landscape and the variety. That is what creates wines like this Philippe Pacalet Échézeaux Grand Cru which is, without doubt, an exceptional wine.

2019

Philippe Pacalet Échézeaux Grand Cru 2019 is a harmonious and refined red wine. The bouquet reveals an array of floral scents and vivid red fruit aromas. On the palate, it possesses a moderate body with robust tannins.
2017 Philippe Pacalet Échézeaux Grand Cru 2017 is a deep red wine. The nose reveals aromas of red fruits, flowers, skins and sandalwood. The palate is complex and surprising. It has a slightly saline note and a tannic mid-palate, a balance that provides robustness and elegance.
