About Pesquera MXI

Pesquera MXI is a red wine barrel made by the Pesquera winery with the Tempranillo variety in the DO Ribera de Duero (Castilla y León).

Considered by the prestigious critic Robert Parker, to be one of the main Spanish producers, Alejandro Fernández hands over the Pesquera winery in Ribera de Duero to his granddaughters Inés Bocos Fernández, Elvira Bocos Fernández, Lucía Pascual Fernández, ángela Pascual Fernández and Elisa Martínez Martínez. A handover which arrives making strides with new approaches but without losing the tradition and wisdom of the teacher; their grandfather.

Pesquera MXI originates in a 200-hectare vineyard located in Monte Alto Pesquera in Valladolid (Castilla y León). They are 25-year-old vines planted in sandy loam soils 900 meters above sea level. Traditional agriculture is practiced and the harvest is carried out at the optimal moment of ripening.

In the winery, the Pesquera MXI grapes go through a rigorous selection process. They then ferment in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature and finally the wine ages in a very careful selection of American oak barrels with medium toasting for 14 months. Before going on the market, the wine rests for another 6 months in the bottle.

Pesquera MXI refers to a very momentous date for the reconquest, the year 1011, when the Caliph Suleymán al-Mustain delivered land from the Ribera del Duero to the Count of Castilla. It also owes its name to the origin of its grapes, lots 10 and 11 of the Finca Familiar Pesquera. A red wine which, although young and fresh, has a lot to say.
