Olivares Dulce Monastrell 2020 is a treat for those with a penchant for sweetness, yet it avoids being cloying. Upon nosing, a bouquet of ripe fruits such as plums and figs unfolds, interwoven with hints of honey and vanilla. On the palate, its sweetness is countered by a refreshing acidity, creating a silky texture that beckons another taste. This wine exhibits a complexity that both astonishes and gratifies, culminating in a lingering and delightful aftertaste.

About Olivares Dulce Monastrell

The Monastrell grape, renowned for its unique ability to flourish in warm climates, reaches its pinnacle in sun-drenched regions. Southern French areas, Australia, California, and the Spanish Levante, particularly within the Mediterranean denominations of origin, become its ideal habitat. However, it is its vibrancy and remarkable versatility in the Spanish Levante that truly sets it apart. These two distinct qualities were keenly observed by Pascual Olivares back in the 1930s, which he successfully showcased at Bodega Olivares. Today, his grandchildren continue the venture with the same passion their grandfather initiated, and thanks to their mastery over this varietal, wines such as their Olivares Dulce Monastrell consistently garner awards and international acclaim year after year.

Considering that Olivares Dulce Monastrell is only produced in years when the Monastrell grapes possess the desired quality characteristics, it comes from old vines planted in chalky clay soil at an altitude of 720 meters above sea level. The harvest is manual when the grape is overripe and has reached high levels of concentration. At the winery, a pre-fermentation maceration is conducted in cold conditions, followed by fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Finally, it undergoes malolactic fermentation and is aged in century-old clay jars for a minimum of two years.

As a result of minimal intervention, Olivares Dulce Monastrell emerges as a sweet wine that boasts an exquisite balance between acidity and sweetness. A superb sweet wine with the distinctive Monastrell personality of Murcia.
