Heretat MontRubí Serres Velles Garnatxa 2021 is a concentrated, intense and powerful red wine. Garnet in colour, the nose begins the tasting with fruity aromas (blackberry) that combine with spices. On the palate it has body. Silky and structured. Its finish is lingering and slightly bitter.

About MontRubí Serres Velles Garnatxa

For centuries the Alto Penedés has been a place where the cultivation of vineyards has been a tradition. Part of its DNA were the cooperatives, where wine and oil were produced and even shipped across the ocean. This was, for example, the case of the cooperative in L'Avellá, a local village where the cooperative did business and sent its products to Cuba. However, things changed at the beginning of the 20th century, as phylloxera greatly reduced all this economic activity. Although the local people continued to cultivate the vines, many companies, like the cooperative, closed and were abandoned, leaving a legacy, a tradition and expertise in the air. Several years later, in 1984, the Peri family stepped up to take on all these expertise. This is how Heretat MontRubí was born.

Heretat MontRubí is a family business, a winery where the main objective is to produce wines following the area’s traditional and ancient methods. What began with the simple production of cava, which is very typical of the area, continued to evolve until they were working directly with the area’s main grapes, to becoming the first winery to produce 100% Sumoll wines (one of the most delicate native varieties to grow). This portfolio, which is great quality by the way, also includes Heretat MontRubí Serres Velles Garnatxa, a single-variety Garnatxa aged in French oak barrels.

Totally organic and vegan, Heretat MontRubí Serres Velles Garnatxa is harvested by hand from the property’s 40 hectares of vineyards (spread over 35 plots). All the vines grow on calcareous soils, between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains. From there the grapes are taken directly to the winery, where they will ferment in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. After this process, Heretat MontRubí Serres Velles Garnatxa is gently pressed and transferred to old French oak barrels where it will rest for approximately half a year. No sulphites. Heretat MontRubí Serres Velles Garnatxa is bottled and released for sale, ready for the rest of the world to experience the greatness of this small corner of northeastern Spain.
