About Martini Bianco
Sellotape, Kleenex, Post-it, Mascara, Tipp-Ex... There are brands that not only sell products but also transform language. When their name becomes the common term for an entire category, they have achieved a status reserved for very few. And if we speak of vermouth, there is one brand that plays in that league with its own glass: Martini.
Simply uttering its name conjures up images of aperitifs, in abundance, with ice, a slice of lime, and endless conversation. It matters not whether it is rosso, bianco, or riserva: Martini is the vermouth. Period.
The story begins in 1863, in the small town of Pessione, when the entrepreneurial spirit of Alessandro Martini encounters the creative talent of herbalist Luigi Rossi. From this meeting, the first Martini Rosso was born, an aromatic vermouth, intense and with that balance between bitterness and sweetness that would set the trend. The formula was secret—and remains so—but its success was so resounding that it soon became an iconic drink.
Since then, Martini has crossed borders, eras, and fashions. And although its influence has spread to all continents, its essence remains rooted in the Piedmont landscape, amidst vineyards, mountains, and botanicals.
In the early 20th century, the house decided to go a step further with a new creation: Martini Bianco, also nicknamed “Bianchissimo” for its clear colour and more floral profile. It officially came into being in 1910, but it was in the 1970s that its popularity would soar as it became the foundation of a new ritual: the Martini & Tonic.
Martini Bianco is crafted from white wines such as trebbiano, with infusions of flowers, aromatic herbs, and a pronounced presence of vanilla, giving it that smooth and enveloping character. Mixed with tonic, the result is bright, refreshing, and surprisingly modern. A vermouth that reinvents itself without losing its soul. Because yes, there are very good vermouths, artisanal, modern, daring. But Martini is more than a vermouth; it is a word we all understand, a timeless classic that takes us straight to the aperitif, without detours.
