About Emilio Moro Malleolus

If one were to attempt to gauge the extent of the winemaking tradition in DO. Ribera del Duero, the efforts would be futile. Since time immemorial, this region in northern Spain has maintained a close relationship with vineyards. In fact, in the municipality of Pesquera del Duero, there was an exclusive Latin word to refer to the vines: malleolus. Today, as a testament to this tradition, Emilio Moro employs this term to christen one of its esteemed reds: Emilio Moro Malleolus

For over four generations, the Moro family has been devoted to viticulture, establishing a benchmark brand not only in Spain but also on an international scale. Very few wineries maintain the handling of the Tempranillo that Emilio Moro preserves in its Emilio Moro Malleolus. Specifically, the grapes hail from Camino Viejo, a vineyard planted in 1989, situated along a steep hillside. The vines, rooted in clay and limestone soils (particularly in the upper part), are at an altitude of 890 metres, achieving the perfect maturation that results in the ideal balance between sugar and acidity.

The production of Emilio Moro Malleolus begins with the harvest and a maceration with the skins that extends for 28 days until it is time to perform the racking and prepare Emilio Moro Malleolus for fermentation. Once completed, Emilio Moro Malleolus undergoes malolactic fermentation and rests for a considerable period in new French oak barrels from Allier.

Emilio Moro Malleolus is an elegant, sincere, complex wine with a robust structure. A magnificent expression of the Tempranillo, the reigning variety of the Ribera del Duero.

2008 Great wine from the Ribera del Duero elegant, serious, very expressive, intense and very well balanced. It has a very nice slightly warm attack, that gives way to a tasty mid palate of perfectly balanced fruit and wood aromas, with a extraordinary silkiness. It shows a very good acidity and very long and very persistent aromas that leave subtle spicy and mineral sensations. A gift from Emilio Moro, to be enjoyed slowly.

Intense maroon cherry colour with thin purple edges. Bright wine with elegant tears.

Intense, expressive and clean aromas. The elegant wooden notes appear along with the spicy aromas and some subtle notes of ripe black fruit. When it opens up, the notes of fruit gain in intensity, still well balanced with the creamy smoked nuances and the spices, which give way to some balsamic notes that freshen and round out this aromatic set. The wine is round off with a slight mineral background. A pleasure!
2006 In mouth is very powerful and concentrated balance and very tasty. By retronasal appear again spicy, black fruit and aromatic wood. Going through the mouth and is velvety with a good integration between fruit and wood to maintain a final warm.

Pillory color covered with maroon trim.

Nose is a wine dominated by very intense balsamic notes and aromatic woods. Also are the species, the black fruit on mature and jam, coffee, tea and cocoa with a touch of minerals.
