About Lucien Le Moine Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers

How does a young Lebanese man become one of the most talked-about producers in Burgundy? It all begins in the late 1980s, when Mounir Saouma allowed his curiosity to lead him to a monastery in the Middle East. There, he not only found silence and devotion but also vineyards that he began to tend with his own hands, learning to make wine for the first time. This intense and transformative experience was just the first step of a journey that would take him far beyond any border: from Montpellier to Burgundy, from France to California, six years exploring vineyards, traditional methods, and ageing secrets that fascinated him and made him fall in love with the purity of pinot noir.

In 1999, Mounir decided to take his learning to the extreme. Together with his wife Rotem—who came from a family of cheesemakers and had turned agriculture and wine into her passion after winning a national award from the French Academy of Agriculture—they established a small winery: Lucien Le Moine. The name pays homage to his personal history: “Lucien” is the French translation of “Mounir,” meaning “light” in Arabic, and “Le Moine,” meaning “the monk,” recalls his early lessons in winemaking within the sacred walls of the monastery where it all began.

Among their treasures is Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers, a wine that breathes Burgundy through every pore. Situated just below the prestigious “Bonne Mares” and bordering Morey-Saint-Denis, this 80-year-old vineyard imparts character and depth to every cluster. A 100% pinot noir crafted with care, undergoing 2-4 batonages per month, without clarification or filtration before gravity bottling, and aged in oak barrels that respect the pure expression of the grape.

Mounir and Rotem, with their obsessive focus on purity, have achieved elegance, structure, and finesse. Lucien Le Moine Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers is not just a name on the label, it is a mark of Burgundian excellence and authenticity. A wine that invites one to discover the light and devotion that gave rise to this story.
