About Legaris Moradillo de Roa
A Spanish town in the province of Burgos (Castilla y León), Moradillo de Roa is part of the Ribera del Duero Wine Route. The settlement lies on a small hill overlooking an open horizon dominated by grain fields and vineyards. There is a long tradition of vine cultivation here which, over time, has managed to form an impressive unified group of more than one hundred and fifty wineries. Legaris, a winery owned by the Codorníu Raventós group and representative of the Ribera del Duero, has played a part in promoting this charming winegrowing area by creating their village wine, Legaris Moradillo de Roa.
The fruit of a small 2-hectare vineyard lying at an altitude of 973 metres above sea level, Legaris Moradillo de Roa is a single-variety wine made with the native Tinto Fino variety. The vines are more than 20 years old and are planted on boulder soils that retain daytime heat to balance out the vines during the cold nights. Harvesting takes place when the grapes are very ripe and, once they reach the winery, alcoholic fermentation takes place spontaneously in a small stainless steel cone-shaped tank with native yeasts. The wine is then aged for 12 months in 225 litre French barrels. The final blend is made and bottled without clarifying or filtering.
Aiming to capture the authentic profile of this corner of the Duero, Legaris Moradillo de Roa is a very unique red wine. An exuberant, lively and elegant village wine worth holding onto.
