Laus Crianza 2019 is an intense, deep coloured red wine. Very concentrated and intense, the nose reveals aromas of oak, vanilla, spices, peach, black plums and cherries. The palate is full and fresh, dense and voluminous, with sweet and silky tannins. Complex and balanced finish.
Most flowers grow in beautiful and quiet places. But not the poppy. This flower, which appears in the most unexpected places, grows where life is a bit more complicated. All-terrain and unbeatable, this plant was even seen in the World War I trenches, in the midst of battle and devastation (since then, in some countries like the UK, it has become a symbol of peace). With this in mind, there is no better flower to put on the label of Laus Crianza, a red coupage of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon made by Bodegas Laus in Huesca in the D.O. Somontano (in the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula).
Like the poppy, Laus Crianza starts life in a not very fertile soil, in the south of the denomination. Here, in the Las Almunietas area, we find a chalky and stony soil, with gypsum and a loamy texture, where traditionally it was difficult for crops to succeed. However, like the poppy, Laus Crianza emerges among the stones, between 350 and 400 metres above sea level, thanks to the warm, dry Mediterranean climate of the inland area (with little rainfall). Here, the varieties are able to ripen perfectly, reaching the harvest date without any issues (which is done early in the morning to guarantee the good condition of the grapes).
The bunches are taken to the winery, a modern and environmentally friendly building, where Laus Crianza is made. When they get there the bunches of Laus Crianza grapes will be received in the first of the three bays that make up this minimalist winery. Here, the red wine ferments in 46 double tanks and eight isothermal tanks, where the yeasts transform the must into wine. The process will continue in the second building, dedicated to aging. Here Laus Crianza spends eight months resting in the 1,300 French and mixed oak barrels that make up its collection. Finally, after this time, Laus Crianza goes to the third and final bay for bottling, where this unstoppable red wine gets ready to be enjoyed.
