About La Vicalanda Reserva
La Vicalanda Reserva is a red wine from the D.O.Ca. La Rioja crafted by Bodegas Bilbaínas. This wine is a single-varietal of Tempranillo.
The grapes used are sourced from the finest vineyards in the region, located less than 2km from the winery.
The soils from which La Vicalanda Reserva emerges are calcareous and stony. These are therefore poor, with low yield but exceptional quality.
The vineyards, planted in bush style, are managed through sustainable agriculture.
The harvest is conducted only at the optimal ripening moment. Following destemming and crushing, La Vicalanda Reserva undergoes a maceration process of approximately three weeks at a temperature of 28ºC.
Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations then occur, and subsequently, the must is racked to refine the lees before entering the barrel.
La Vicalanda Reserva rests for 14 months in new French oak barrels from Allier. During the ageing process, three rackings are performed.
La Vicalanda Reserva, before being released to the market, matures for an additional 24 months in the bottle.
Bodegas Bilbaínas, the oldest bottling firm in La Rioja, is a business group comprised of the following three wineries: Viña Zaco, Viña Pomal, and La Vicalanda.

2016 | La Vicalanda Reserva 2016 is a red wine that on the nose offers deep aromas of ripe black fruits accompanied by notes of violet and roasted nuances on a balsamic and mineral background. The palate is well-structured, fleshy and powerful, silky, elegant and intense.
2012 | La Vicalanda Reserva 2012 is a wine with a tertiary profile, that is, with aromas of its stay in the barrel that are still quite evident. These are complemented with black fruits that will be refined in the bottle over time. A wine with a modern Rioja profile that will delight people who like concentrated wines.
2009 | Wide and a good body. Long and tasty after taste. Clean and intense garnet red colour with purple and russet tones. Clean and intense undertones. Notes of red fruit and liquorice which add to the typical touches that are found in wine aged in the barrel. |
