About Jaboulet Secret de Famille Syrah

In every good family there are always secrets. If not, it is neither family nor anything else. Now the Frey family, owners of Domaine Paul Jaboulet Ainé, have shared their secret with us through Jaboulet Secret de Famille Syrah.

Jaboulet Secret de Famille Syrah is a tribute to and a recognition of the Jaboulet family, who owned and ran this winery in Tain l'Hermitage for 150 years. Here, on the left bank of the Rhône valley, this family knew exactly how to interpret the area’s granitic soils. One of their tricks was to respect both the land and the ecosystem as much as possible. Everyone has their own way of doing things. Today, winemaker Caroline Frey, daughter of the current owner, is in charge of this task and continues to work with the same philosophy. Caroline has been around vineyards since she was five years old (her family owned properties in Burgundy and Champagne).

Jaboulet Secret de Famille Syrah is a classic red, the perfect prototype that embodies those more traditional vinifications that reflect the pure essence of the Rhone Valley. In this area, it is impossible not to mention the Syrah, the most cultivated variety in the Domaine Paul Jaboulet Ainé. In fact, this winery’s single-variety reds are tremendously well known. In general, these are powerful and intense wines, which are capable of withstanding long barrel aging. However, this does not mean that these reds are not interesting when they are younger. In fact, Jaboulet Secret de Famille Syrah is exactly that, a wine that has not been aged in oak. “Only excellent grapes can produce excellent wine,” says Caroline Frey. A firm recommendation.
