About Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Monprivato

Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Monprivato is a monovarietal Nebbiolo red wine from the DOCG Barolo, produced by Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio.

Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio is a family winery founded in 1881. It is considered one of the finest producers of Barolo and one of the best wineries in the world. The family acquired the mythical Monprivato vineyard in 1904, a unique plot of land planted with the excellent Michet clone of the Nebbiolo variety. The winery vinifies in cement tanks coated with epoxy resin and in stainless steel tanks, and ages its wines in Slavonian oak foudres to ensure that the grape and its terroir are fully expressed.

The vineyard for Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Monprivato is a single plot called Monprivato in the commune of Castiglione Falleto. It is a vineyard that has been cultivated since the 17th century. Its soils are mainly calcareous, and the strain of Nebbiolo planted is the Michét clone. It was introduced into the plot by Maurizio Mascarello in 1921. Some say that this vineyard is the Italian vineyard analogous to the French La Tâche. Both produce a very refined grape and share the fact of being a monopole, that is, being only from a single owner.

Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Monprivato ferments with the skins for about 20-25 days and then undergoes ageing for 30 months in Slavonian oak foudres. The wine is not bottled until 6 years after the harvest so that it is fine, stabilised and balanced.

Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Monprivato is a complex and very elegant red; a pure expression of the finest Barolos.
2014 Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Monprivato 2014 is a complex, very fruity, elegant, intense and spicy wine with floral touches. On the palate it has an excellent body, and is full, muscular and powerful. Its finish is lingering and complex.
