About Etchart Cafayate Reserva Malbec
As with many things, Cafayate, one of Argentina’s most renowned wine regions, came about through the adventures of a pioneer, Flavio Niño y Plazaola, a visionary who saw the potential of this high altitude area in 1850 and decided to plant his first white vines to start producing wine. Later, in 1938, when it was run by Arnaldo Benito Etchart, they also acquired a winery from his wife Carmen Rosa’s family, the wines of this area became known around the world, and Bodegas Etchart became one of the most prestigious and oldest wineries in Argentina. The altitude, extreme climate and unique terroir offer a natural richness that are the essence of Cafayate’s potential and character.
An example of this great work and one of their most successful wines is Etchart Cafayate Reserva Malbec. A single-variety Malbec from vineyards located in the centre of the Calchaquíes Valleys, southeast of Salta, in the Cafayate Valley. These vines are over 30 years old, planted between 1,700 and 3,000 metres above sea level, and enjoy bright sunshine most of the year and not much rainfall. In the winery, the grapes are selected, destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures and then aged for 6 months in French and American oak.
An icon of the Calchaquí Valleys, Etchart Cafayate Reserva Malbec is a faithful representation of the Malbecs from the Cafayate Valley. A balanced, elegant, oak-aged single-variety wine with a tempting price tag.
2021 | Etchart Cafayate Reserva Malbec 2021 is a smooth red wine with fragrant herbal aromas and ripe black fruit notes. On the palate it is warm, frank and elegant. A wine with noticeable acidity, firm tannins and a long, pleasant finish. |
