Envínate Benje epitomises the untainted essence of Tenerife's northern volcanic landscape. This red wine originates from Santiago del Teide, within the D.O. Ycoden Daute Isora, and is one of the labels that best encapsulates the philosophy of the winery Envínate.
The Envínate project commenced in 2005, when four young oenologists, classmates, decided to return to their roots and craft wines from the lands of their origin: Ribera Sacra, Canary Islands, and Extremadura. From the outset, their perspective prioritised the role of viticulturists over technicians. This means an absolute respect for the landscape, minimal intervention, and an almost artisanal approach, allowing the grape and terroir to speak for themselves.
With a clear objective to create wines that are genuine and characterful, they succeed in conveying the distinctiveness of each plot and the true potential of each variety. To achieve this, they eschew herbicides, pesticides, and chemical products, and minimise interventions in the winery. This philosophy has established Envínate as one of the most intriguing names among the new wave of Spanish oenologists, who are breathing fresh life into the national wine scene.
Envínate Benje is crafted from listán prieto and tintilla sourced from ancient vineyards, aged between 70 and 120 years old. The vines thrive at approximately 1,000 metres above sea level, on volcanic soils that impart a unique character to the wine.
The harvest is conducted manually, using small 16-kilogram crates, with meticulous grape selection in the vineyard itself. In the winery, each plot is vinified separately. The grapes, left unstemmed, undergo cold maceration before fermenting with indigenous yeasts in various vessels—cement, open-top vats, and French oak barrels. After fermentation, the wine is aged for approximately 8 months in French oak barrels and is bottled without fining, filtering, or the addition of SO₂, staying true to the natural and authentic spirit that defines Envínate.
Envínate Benje is an Atlantic, volcanic, and sincere red that brings freshness, vitality, and a novel perspective to the world of wine.
