About Dumenge Sumoll
Sundays, in theory, are the Lord's day. You know; rest, tranquillity, reading… or, at the very least, doing very little. But while some take the opportunity to read, cycle, or laze about without guilt, others decide that their way of honouring the day is… to start harvesting.
Yes, indeed.
This is precisely what happened one Sunday morning in September 2019, when Oriol, Laia, and Jaume—three individuals more restless than a shot of espresso—found themselves in a vineyard of xarel·lo negre with the bright idea of harvesting it and fermenting it in the most rudimentary way possible. A sort of Sunday "what if…?" that ended up becoming a genuine project.
Laia and Oriol were already professionally involved in the wine industry, and Jaume, camera in hand, had been capturing life in the vineyards for some time. But from that Sunday, that mix of spontaneity, eagerness to create, and zero planning bore more fruit than any strategic plan.
What began as an impromptu harvest became the seed of a young, vibrant project with a clear attitude of reviving vineyards, restoring purity, and, above all, having fun. Hence the project's name, Dumenge, derived from "Diumenge" (Sunday in Catalan).
From that adventure emerged wines like Dumenge Sumoll, a pet-nat crafted from the native sumoll variety, made with care and with that rebellious touch of those who follow instincts rather than recipes. They tend to the sumoll vines with dedication, seeking 100% natural ancestral sparkling wines, brimming with minerality thanks to the calcareous soils they tread daily. Following the ancestral method, the wine is bottled while still fermenting, without adding carbon dioxide or commercial yeasts. In this way, the fermentation continues within the bottle, naturally producing the bubbles and resulting in a fresh, direct, and lively sparkling wine, full of character.
Dumenge Sumoll is a sparkling wine that does not aspire to be perfect. It seeks to be authentic. Like the Sundays that witnessed its birth.
