About Domaine Ostertag Pinot Gris

The brainchild of André Ostertag, a rebellious winegrower and staunch champion of biodynamic methods, Domaine Ostertag Pinot Gris is a white wine made from the Pinot Gris variety in the AOC Alsace, in Alsace (France).

Founded in 1966, Domaine Ostertag is a family project where vineyard quality is paramount. They have a total of 14 hectares spread over 80 vineyards that are grouped into 5 spectacular plots. This is where André Ostertag produces an average of 90,000 bottles a year, which can be divided into fruit wines, terroir wines and sweet wines.

His Domaine Ostertag Pinot Gris wine comes from several vineyards located in Epfig, a town in the Lower Rhine. These Pinot Gris vines are planted on rich soils of clayey sandstone, loess and shale and are cultivated using a holistic approach. André is not only concerned with managing the material needs of the plant but he also cares about working with the vital energies in nature. He does this so that the fruit showcases the character of such unique terroir as much as possible.

In the winery, the Domaine Ostertag Pinot Gris grapes are pressed whole in bunches and the resulting must is fermented with native yeasts in 228 litre oak barrels. The wine spends 11 months there on lees before being bottled.

Made from very complex soils, Domaine Ostertag Pinot Gris is a white wine where the fragrance and concentration are enhanced by its oak aging.

 

2018

Domaine Ostertag Les Jardins Pinot Gris 2018 is an aromatic white wine with notes of white fruits, citrus and stone fruits accompanied by fragrances of white flowers and light spicy notes. On the palate it is sweet, pleasant and round. A medium-bodied wine with low acidity and abundant white fruit. The finish is dry and concentrated.
