About Costers del Gravet

Celler de Capçanes Costers del Gravet 2012 is a red wine from DO Montsant prepared by the Celler de Capçanes winery. This wine blend uses Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Grenache (30%) and Carignan (20%).

The grapes come from vineyards between 15 and 60 years old located at an altitude of between 200 and 550 metres. The vines, and the final taste of wine, benefit from the diversity of soils in which they grow. They are limestone, slate and clay.

The harvest is done manually and the grapes then undergo a double selection process. Alcoholic fermentation occurs at a controlled temperature of between 27º and 29º.

Maceration, which lasts two to three weeks, is followed by malolactic fermentation in tank. It begins and ends in barrel. The wine is finally aged for twelve months in French oak barrels. Cellers Capçanes is named after the town in Priorat, in the province of Tarragona, in which it is located. This winery is a cooperative which currently has 125 members and was established in 1933 by a few houses in the area.

The winery aims to make wines following the teachings that have been passed down in each family.

2021

Costers del Gravet 2021 unfolds with a bouquet of ripe blackberries and hints of liquorice that captivate upon the initial scent. Upon tasting, it presents with velvety tannins and a vivacious acidity that lends a refreshing balance, complemented by a medium-bodied intensity. Its passage over the palate leaves a persistent, dry impression with a delicately gritty texture. Nuances of clove and a gentle smokiness add layers of complexity to this concentrated and refined red wine.

2018

Costers del Gravet 2018 is a robust red, boasting a deep crimson hue. Olfactorily, it is intricate, with a bouquet of ripe cherries, plums, and blueberries interwoven with the quintessential nuances of oak aging (vanilla, toasted, smoky notes). On the palate, it is well-structured and full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a lively acidity. Harmoniously balanced. The finish is enduring.
