About COS Nero di Lupo
COS Nero di Lupo is an organic red wine aged in amphoras and made with the Nero d’Avola variety by Azienda Agricola Cos in Sicily (Italy).
COS was set up in 1980 by Giambattista Cilia, Cirino Strano and Giusto Occhipinti. Three expert winegrowers who decided to name the winery using the first letter of their three last names. Since the beginning they have used organic farming and organic materials like clay amphoras. A very innovative company that has become a leading producer in Sicily.
COS Nero di Lupo comes from vineyards located in the Sicilian municipality of Vittoria. These are 15-year-old vines planted 250 metres above sea level on sandy limestone soils. Ecological agriculture is used and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.
In the winery, the meticulously selected COS Nero di Lupo grapes are gently crushed and they begin to ferment spontaneously with native yeasts. The wine then ages in cement tanks for 18 to 24 months.
COS Nero di Lupo is an example of everything the leading Sicilian variety can offer. A true Nero d’Avola with all its generosity, seduction and minerality.
2018 | COS Nero di Lupo is a juicy wine with aromas of red fruit and spices and balsamic notes. On the palate, it is fresh, balanced and very elegant. It reveals fine tannins, salty touches and a persistent finish. A wine with surprising verticality. |
