About Astrales Christina

Astrales Christina is a single-variety Tinto Fino red wine made by Bodegas Los Astrales in Anguix (Burgos) in the D.O. Ribera del Duero.

Bodegas Los Astrales is a family winery now run by the third generation of the Romera de la Cruz family. They are advised by Eduardo García, son of Mariano García, who was responsible winemaking successes like Mauro, San Román and Aalto. Bodegas Los Astrales is currently run by prestigious winemakers José Hidalgo Togores and Ana Martín Onzain, both of whom have extensive experience as creators of some of the best wines in Spain.

Bodegas Los Astrales has 29 hectares of vineyards in the heart of the Ribera del Duero, with plots over 80 years old. No herbicides are used in the vineyard and an effort is made to preserve all the surrounding fauna to maintain balance, always taking maximum care of the vines and their surroundings.
The Astrales Christina wine is made with the Tinto Fino variety, from grapes growing on the oldest vines in the Pago de Fuentesanta, which are over 100 years old. The vines are planted on clayey-calcareous soils with boulders.

The harvest is carried out manually, with the grapes selected in the vineyard and in the winery. The grapes ferment in 50 hectolitre stainless steel tanks with native yeasts, and macerate in the same place for 15 days. The resulting wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages for 18 months on its lees in new, extra fine grain French oak barrels.

The Astrales Christina wine is part of the Bodegas Astrales family collection and showcases the full character of the Ribera del Duero in a velvety, elegant and sensual manner.

2019

Astrales Christina 2019 boasts an intense and alluring bouquet, prominently featuring dark fruits, particularly blackberry, complemented by spicy notes of vanilla and liquorice. On the palate, it reveals itself as powerful and well-balanced, with a smooth and velvety texture. The tannins are sweet and refined, offering a long and elegant finish that highlights the concentrated essence of Tempranillo. It is a wine that marries strength and subtlety in an exceptional manner.                      
2018

Astrales Christina 2018 is a robust red wine. On the nose, it unveils scents of dried herbs, creamy oak, dark fruit, minerals, and chocolate. The palate is spicy, with ripe tannins and superb balance. It has a lengthy, velvety finish. It is both luscious and refined.
2016 Astrales Christina 2016 is a red wine with aromas of black fruits on the nose, accompanied by toasted, spicy and mineral nuances. On the palate it is broad and powerful. This red wine is concentrated but sweet, velvety and elegant. It will age well in the bottle for a few years.
2015 Astrales Christina 2015 is a deep red wine that is powerful and concentrated. A vintage with excellent quality that reveals a distinguished nose, aromas of ripe black and red fruit on a toasted base note with elegant spicy notes. On the palate it is voluminous, meaty and highly lingering.
