About Cascina Gilli Freisa d'Asti Il Forno

Cascina Gilli Freisa d'Asti Il Forno is a red wine made by Cascina Gilli with the Freisa variety in the DOC Freisa d'Asti, in the Piedmont region (Italy). 
 
Cascina Gilli is located in the town of Monferrato, on the edge of the white hills. With a historic building from the 18th century surrounded by 15 hectares of land, this winery has been managed by Gianni Vergnano since 1983. A meticulous and passionate work that has recently focussed on recovering historic vineyards, which has seen this project become one of the most prestigious in Piedmont. 
 
Cascina Gilli Freisa d'Asti Il Forno comes from vineyards planted in soils rich in clay loam. These are Freise vines, a native variety that is genetically very close to the very famous Nebbiolo. They are cultivated using traditional agriculture and yields are kept low to achieve a rich and concentrated grape. 
 
After careful harvesting, the Cascina Gilli Freisa d'Asti Il Forno grapes are gently pressed and macerated on the skins for about 6 days, with frequent pumping over. Finally, the wine ages in stainless steel tanks to preserve the variety’s freshness and typical characteristics. 
 
Made with a little-known variety called Freisa, Cascina Gilli Freisa d'Asti Il Forno is a wine that truly represents the deepest winemaking essence of the Asti area.

Cascina Gilli Freisa d'Asti Il Forno 2019 is a juicy red wine with an elegant bouquet of small red fruits, notes of pink petals and hints of spice. On the palate it is smooth, light and elegant. A medium-bodied wine with velvety tannins, a fruity mid-palate and a persistent finish.
