About Ca' del Bosco Maurizio Zanella

When Annamaria Clementi Zanella acquired a small estate surrounded by a chestnut grove in the hills of Erbusco, it marked the inception of a project that would revolutionise the production of high-quality sparkling wines in the Lombardy region, capable of competing with the esteemed wines of Champagne. This family legacy inspired her son, Maurizio Zanella, to establish Ca' del Bosco in 1969, naming the winery after that modest house in the woods which would become the heart of his vinous dream.

Today, what began as a simple residence has evolved into a modern winery spanning nearly 200 hectares of vineyards, solidifying its position as one of the cornerstones of the "Italian wine Renaissance".

Among its treasures is Maurizio Zanella, an iconic red from Lombardy that pays tribute to its founder and is crafted only in exceptional vintages that allow for a powerful, elegant, and long-lived expression. Part of the Sebino IGT designation, it combines three classic varieties: cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and cabernet franc. Its production is a perfect balance between tradition and enological precision: the grapes descend by gravity into the vats, avoiding pumping and preserving the integrity of the skins, minimising undesirable herbaceous notes. Alcoholic fermentation and maceration last approximately 21 days, with careful temperature control and extraction through daily remontage and gravity transfer.

Following fermentation, the wine matures in French oak barrels, 70% of which are new, selected and seasoned for at least 3 years. The wood ageing extends for about 13 months, after which the different lots are blended and bottled naturally, once again by gravity.

This meticulous care ensures a wine that combines power, elegance, and a refined texture, with an ageing potential that makes it a benchmark of Lombard viticulture.
