About Borsao Tres Picos

Borsao Tres Picos is a red wine produced by the winery Borsao, under the DO. Campo de Borja, and is regarded as one of the 100 best wines in the world according to Wine Spectator. 

The origins of Borsao can be traced back to 1958 when the cooperative of producers in Campo de Borja decided to organize themselves. Since then, this enterprise has become quite the adventure, primarily distinguished by its expertise and adept handling of the Garnacha, the predominant variety of the region. 

As expected, Borsao Tres Picos is a single-variety wine made from this grape, crafted with grapes from old vines (35 to 60 years old) planted at altitudes of 600-700 meters on clay-limestone, stony, and silty soils, sheltered by the Moncayo, a mountain that protects them by regulating the cold and heat. The climate is one of contrasts. In winter, there is intense cold with the Cierzo (a cold northwesterly wind). In summer, high temperatures allow for a slow ripening, contributing to good acidity and a beautiful color in the wines.

To craft Borsao Tres Picos, the grapes macerate for 20-25 days before fermentation, which occurs in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of between 25-30°C. This wine undergoes aging for less than a year in new French oak Bordeaux barrels, becoming the finest representative of a quality Aragonese Garnacha.

2022

Borsao Tres Picos 2022 is a red wine that captivates with its deep cherry-red hue. On the nose, it is intense, enveloping with an exquisite array of red fruits such as cherries and strawberries, perfectly balanced with notes of blackberries and plums. These sensations intertwine with aromas of vanilla and subtle roasted hints. In the glass, it reveals a structured texture with sweet, fine tannins, while the flavours of spices, like clove and more vanilla, add a sophisticated nuance. The 2022 vintage stands out for its fruity and juicy expression, offering a memorable experience for lovers of intense and complex wines.
2021

Borsao Tres Picos 2021 is a barrel-aged red wine, boasting a juicy and slightly full-bodied profile. On the nose, it stands out for its aromas of ripe fruits such as plum and cherry, accompanied by subtle hints of vanilla and spices. On the palate, it is smooth and rounded, with well-integrated tannins and a persistent finish that leaves a pleasant sensation of ripe fruit.
2020 Borsao Tres Picos 2020 is an intense red wine with aromas reminiscent of ripe red fruits on the nose, accompanied by vanilla and floral nuances. Concentrated on the palate, with sweet tannins and ripe flavours. A red wine with great structure and silkiness.
2019

Borsao Tres Picos 2019 is an alluring red wine. It boasts a robust olfactory presence, redolent with scents of berries and cedar. Upon the palate, it is warm and mildly acidic, displaying a medium body accentuated by robust tannins. The finish is flavorful, with hints of caramel.
2018

Borsao Tres Picos 2018 is an intense red wine brimming with aromas of ripe red fruits, floral undertones, and spicy accents. On the palate, it is opulent, indulgent, and velvety. This wine boasts mature, well-structured tannins.
2013

The palate is silky and structured. There are notes of blackberry, plum and vanilla with memories of leather.

Good acidity. Sweet tannins.



Intense cherry colour with purple hues. Clean and bright, has a large, slow-falling tear.



On the nose there are aromas of ripe red fruit with some floral notes.
2012 Good attack. Agile, structured and medium-bodied leaving a rich and dense taste of alcohol. Good acidity well complimented with sweet, juicy tannins. Good, persistent finish. A good Grenache from Aragon.

Clean, well-defined, pleasant nose. Lots of aromas of ripe red fruit with floral touches, complemented by some roasted, balsamic, spicy aromas. A very honest nose.
2011 Good attack. Agile, structured and medium-bodied leaving a rich and dense liquorice taste. Good acidity well complemented with sweet, juicy tannins. Good, persistent finish. A good Grenache from Aragon.

Clean, well-defined, pleasant nose. Lots of aromas of ripe red fruit with floral touches and complemented by some roasted, balsamic, spicy aromas. A very honest wine.
2010 Very good, powerful and very nice attack. This spanish wine has a long, fresh, very tasty and full-bodied mid palate. Its notes of fruit become much sweeter in the palate and show a touch of liquor. They are released along with a balanced and harmonious set of wooden notes which remain in the background. This well structured wine has a silky texture and a great acidity that balances the wine and provides it with freshness. It shows integrated tannins and a long very nice finish, with a good persistence.

Intense dark cherry colour with purple reflections. Bright wine with thick tears.

Complex, intense and well balanced aromas. Initially, a nice grassy background and subtle smoky notes are noticed along with expressive notes of fleshy ripe red fruit. When it opens up, the fruit becomes more expressive and complex, with a touch of liquor, and the notes provided by the oak appear: lots of spices, vanilla and pepper, cocoa and good toasted hints.
2009 Very nice wine with a strong attack. Silky and very tasty mid palate, with notes fruit and very elegant toasted aromas. Well integrated tannins. Long finish.

Dark cherry colour with violet edges. Very intense and bright. Dense tears.

Distinctly varietal aromas. Expressive notes of ripe red fruit combined the notes provided during its short stay in oak barrels. When it opens up, lots of spices (vanilla, pepper) are released along with notes of chocolate and smoke. Subtle floral and balsamic notes are also noticed on an interesting mineral background. A very expressive wine that gains in intensity and complexity.
2008 Wide and powerful attack. Tasty mid palate, full of fruit and notes provided by the oak (leather and vanilla). Sweet and silky tannins. Long finish.

Intense cherry colour with purple trims. Dense tear.

Concentrated flavours and intense aromas of ripe red fruit with floral nuances typical of the best Grenache grapes. Background of notes provided by the wood.
2007 Rich and well structured. Flavors of blackberries, strawberries and tones of leather, vanilla and plums. Nice and sweet tannin, which leads us to a final silky, long and balanced.

Color picota intense cherry and purple shades.
