About Badenhorst Secateurs Red Blend

Badenhorst Secateurs Red Blend is an ecological barrel-aged red wine made with the Syrah, Cinsault and Garnacha Tinta varieties in the South African region of Swartland (Coastal Region) by A.A. Badenhorst.

Badenhorst is owned by Hein and Adi Badenhorst, two cousins whose grandfather, who ran the prestigious Groot Constantia winery, passed on his love for viticulture. After training in different wineries, they decided to revive the old family farm and began making their own wines. Their wines are made with minimum intervention and in a way that is respectful to the environment.

To make Badenhorst Secateurs Red Blend, they use grapes from small plots located on the slopes of the Paardeberg mountain. These are old vines planted in granite soils and grown organically using biological products and no chemicals. Each strain has a very limited yield and is harvested by hand in small boxes when it reaches optimum ripeness.

When the Badenhorst Secateurs Red Blend grapes reach the winery, they are refrigerated for the first night. The next day they are pressed and fermented spontaneously in cement tanks. Then the wine ages for 12 months in large wooden barrels and cement tanks. Finally, it is gently filtered and bottled.

2018 Badenhorst Secateurs Red Blend 2018 is a juicy red wine with delicious aromas of ripe red fruit accompanied by sweet woody spices. On the palate it is light, smooth and very flexible with fine tannins and a refreshing finish.
