About Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano
"Plant a garden in your stomach and feel good." This phrase, as simple as it is powerful, is much more than a motto: it is the essence that has guided Virginie Saverys since she took the helm of Avignonesi in 2009, one of the most iconic wineries in Tuscany, nestled in the hills of Montepulciano, in the province of Siena. Virginie, originally from Belgium with a distinguished career in the avocado sector, decided upon her retirement that it was time for a new chapter in her life. It was then that she discovered this historic winery from 1974, named in honour of the founding family: Avignonesi. For Virginie, Tuscany represented much more than dreamlike landscapes: it was the perfect opportunity to merge her love for nature with her commitment to sustainability and well-being. Today, with 182 hectares spread across 9 vineyards, biodynamics is not just an agricultural technique but a way of life at Avignonesi. Here, each grape is treated with the utmost respect for the land, avoiding pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilisers. Instead, biodynamic preparations are used to strengthen the connection between the vineyards and their environment.
Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is the perfect embodiment of this vision. This wine is born in the northeastern hills of Montepulciano, crafted exclusively from sangiovese grapes that are hand-picked and selected. The fermentation, entirely spontaneous, takes place in stainless steel tanks, with a maceration period of up to 30 days on the skins to extract the best from the grape. Afterwards, the wine matures for 18 months in barrels and large Slavonian oak casks, resulting in a pure and elegant expression of sangiovese.
Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a journey to the heart of Tuscany. It is a tribute to the perfect balance between respect for the land, attention to detail, and that sense of well-being that only the truly authentic can offer.
