About Ana de Altún

The bond between a mother and her children is unique and special. Mothers provide their children with unconditional love, protection, guidance and emotional support throughout their lives. There is no other relationship that can match this deep connection. It is not surprising that from such a strong bond great tributes are born. When it comes to brothers Iker and Alberto Martínez Pangua, the third generation of Bodegas Atún, their tribute came in the form of a wine named after their mother, Ana de Altún.

Based on an absolute respect for a land that creates great wines, Bodegas Altún brings out the best of a unique environment in the Rioja Alavesa. Ana de Altún is made with two of the DOCa. Rioja’s star varieties, Viura and Malvasía. 15 small plots with slopes of up to 25% whose 30-60 year old vines are planted on calcareous clay soils and cultivated in the traditional way. In the winery, ancient winemaking methods are combined with modern winemaking techniques. The grapes are first selected and destemmed and, after a brief cold maceration and gentle pressing, the resulting must is fermented in French oak barrels at a controlled temperature for 20 to 30 days. Finally, the wine remains on the lees for 3 months in tanks with weekly battonage.

The result is Ana de Altún, an authentic village wine that beautifully reflects the origin of the wine and its makers. A tribute to their mother Ana, who has become a source of pride for the winery.

2022

Ana de Altún 2022 is an aromatic white wine with fragrant notes of tropical fruits accompanied by herbaceous notes and hints of bakery. On the palate it is flavoursome, glyceric and well balanced. A wine with a fruity character, marked acidity and a long finish.
