About Alamos Selección Malbec
Malbec, one of the most widely planted varieties in Mendoza, is at its best in the highest areas of the Andes. However, Catena Zapata is not content with this and in this winery (with more than 100 years of history), they are looking for a way to improve this good quality. From this idea came Alamos Selección Malbec, a single-variety red wine made with grapes that are hand-selected from the vineyards lying at 1,500 metres of altitude that this winery owns in the Andes, specifically in Mendoza, in the Cuyo region.
This is the country’s wine capital, where, thanks to the altitude, they produce wines with marvellous colour. This is mainly due to the significant temperature difference between the hot days and the cold nights, where the anthocyanins (polyphenolic elements in the skin that give the grapes colour) are easily deposited. These altitudes also influence the health of the grapes and diseases, because the fresh air prevents the spread of fungi and fungal diseases. The soils are well drained, young and varied (basalt, granite, limestone and lime), with lots of large stones.
The Alamos Selección Malbec production process begins with selecting the grapes, which are destemmed and processed in the winery. After macerating for several days at low temperatures, where the colour is extracted, Alamos Selección Malbec is transferred to the tanks where alcoholic fermentation begins.
Alamos Selección Malbec: a wine suitable for only the most demanding palates.
